African Unity Parade (AUP) + Festival is a 5O1C3 registered in the state of New York
- Mission:To showcase, celebrate, and honor Africa’s rich, vibrant, and diverse cultures through an inclusive parade that’ll foster harmony and admiration in the heart of New York City, starting May 2025.
- Vision:Establishing an annual parade with activities leading to the commemoration of the Africa Day in New York City, other cities in the United States, and around the world, as well as establishing a global platform for acknowledging Africa’s constructive contributions to the society.
- History:The celebration of the Africa Day symbolizes the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which is now the African Union (AU). As the AU marked its 60th anniversary in New York City on May 25, 2023, Africans from all works of life joined the City in raising the AU flag alongside that of the United States in Bowling Green, downtown Manhattan. This milestone highlighted the continent’s global contributions to the world’s politics, economy, and the untapped potential of all the youthful Africans the world over.
In the world’s largest market economy city where every group, culture, continental interests thrive and are celebrated, it becomes very compelling to also present the continent of Africa in a unique way with the thousands of Mainland Africans living and working in New York City taking part. With this in mind, some African leaders in the New York City resolved to commemorate the 2024 African Union anniversary with activities including a parade that would represent all the 55 countries of Africa.
